Trumansburg Boys Basketball Write Up 12/1/17

Nothing beats a humid athletic center, packed with spectators with the echoes of basketball shoes on the clean gym floor ringing aggressively off the walls. The long awaited return of Trumansburg varsity basketball finally came to a close as the Raiders took on Thomas A. Edison at home.

The JV team kicked off the opening night for boys basketball, as they fell short of the mark, losing to Edison. Leading the charge for the JV team was a duo of sophomores. Dre Capers and Elijah Black. It is head coach Dan MacLean’s first year coaching this group, and the season is far from over. Behind a group of sophomore leaders and a passionate Coach MacLean, look for this group of young guns to bounce back and play some team basketball in the coming weeks.

It was a tale of two halves for the varsity boys team on Friday night. After coming out the gates with a 10-0 run, our Raiders looked like they were going to run the show. At halftime, the same thought was in the minds of all spectators as Trumansburg hosted a 26-point lead, completely thrashing Edison in all categories. The second half however would have a different theme, as Trumansburg got off to a slow, forcing shots and lacking in quality possessions. Slowly, Trumansburg let Edison string together small runs of 5 or 6 points. The massive lead that once was, closed as Edison were within 10 points with 8 minutes remaining in the game. After some timely three-point shots from Edison and some costly turnovers from Trumansburg, Edison had grabbed the lead with less than 2 minutes. Ultimately, Trumansburg was not able to hold on to their lead, as they would end up losing 54-49. Marcus Harrison led the way for Trumansburg, scoring 11. Jared Everhart added 9 points of his own.

Up next for Trumansburg boys basketball is Southern Cayuga on Friday at Southern Cayuga.
