Tri-Town Titans vs. Mynderse (First Home Football Game)

Hot chocolate in small foam cups. Red chili in paper bowls. Bleachers full of spectators laden in scarves, hats and gloves. Stadium lights illuminate the dark campus. Friday night football has returned, and despite the combination of teams, excitement for a new season is back in Trumansburg.

The 2017 home opener saw the Tri-Town Titans go up against the Mynderse Blue Devils at Tarbell Field. Defense was the name of the game for both sides, resulting in a 7-0 Mynderse lead at halftime. The defensive trend continued, with Mynderse holding a 14-0 lead through three quarters. The Titans offense hit its stride midway through the fourth quarter, thanks in part to a goal-line punch in by Caleb Ladd. After the Titans defense forced a turnover on downs with about 3 minutes left, they put together an impressive drive to put themselves in a good position to score. With 30 seconds left in the game, senior quarterback Caleb Ladd connected with senior wide receiver Owen Baird for a touchdown. Ladd dropped back in the pocket and found a diving Baird in the back of the end zone. Due to a missed extra point, the Titans needed a 2-point conversion to force the game to go to overtime. The attempt fell short as a pass to Owen Baird floated over his head, leaving the Titans just shy of tying the game. Now dropping to 0-2 on the year, the Titans play Dundee on Saturday, and look to get their first win of the season.
