Indoor Track Meet Wrap-Up: 2/11 @ Cornell

Once is good, twice is better.

For the second year in a row, your Trumansburg Boy's Indoor Track team has won the Section IV Title. Retaining this title was not easy, as the team had to overcome some hefty challenges to succeed. It takes a team to win this title, and the contribution from each individual was important in Trumansburg's overall performance.

For senior Sam Ives, success comes almost every time he hits the track. Ives is a strong leader on the track team, and is a relentless competitor. Ives again showed his grit and determination by capturing 1st place overall in the 1000-meter race, beating the rest of the competition by less than a second! Ives was also a part of both the 3200-meter team and the 1600-meter relay team. In the 3200-meter race, the combination of Ives, Aidan Begeal, GH Wood, and Noah Head came in 2nd place. Members of this team also had great individual success. GH Wood would squeak out a win in the 55-meter hurdles. Wood has dominated in this event for the entire indoor track season. Also having a standout performance was sophomore Noah Head. Head has been growing as a track athlete and is peaking at the right time, as he secured a 600-meter run victory. The race that was most anticipated on Saturday was the 1600-meter relay. The Raiders knew that they were going to have tough competition, as they would be in a race involving Elmira-Notre Dame. The Trumansburg-Elmira Notre Dame face-off on the track has been a rivalry going on for some time. Trumansburg hasn't had an overwhelming amount of success versus this END relay team, but they beat out the Crusaders team on Saturday. In a very close race, the passionate team of Same Ives, Logan Bonn, GH Wood, and Noah Head would take 1st place in a crucial victory for the Trumansburg team. Trumansburg did not just sparkle on the track, but in the field events as well. Leading the charge for the Raiders was Dominic Mikula who placed 3rd in the triple-jump, behind teammate Keegan Moore who took 2nd. Moore also placed 5th overall in the long jump, and 2nd in the 55-meter dash. Mikula didn't stop there, as he would take 1st place in pole vault, with fellow Trumansburg vaulter Jack Murphy. Congratulations to this group of hardworking athletes, for they have deserved this title. To the athletes moving on to the state meet: Good luck!

The boys team wasn't the only one to have success on Saturday, as our Trumansburg Girl's Indoor Track team were in action at Cornell as well. Sophomore Finley Edmonds continued to dominate the 55-meter dash, as she took 1st overall. Edmonds also finished 2nd in the 300-meter dash. Senior Marie Griswold also showed her skills on Saturday as she took 5th overall in both the pole vault and the 55-meter hurdles. Sydney Preston also had a great performance as she took 2nd overall in the triple jump. Rounding out the day for the Lady Raiders was the combination of Olivia Murray and Lexi DeRaiche, who took places 4 and 5 in the shot put. Go Raiders!
