Girls Basketball Wrap-Up: 2/6-2/11

In the last week of the season, the Trumansburg Girl's basketball program had their plates full as the varsity team played three games and the junior Lady Raiders playing in two games. To start the week, the varsity team journeyed to Newark Valley to take on the Cardinals. In a frustrating game, the Raiders ended up losing, with turnovers plaguing Coach Flood's team. Just two days later, both teams were back in action as they had another tough away game, this time in Moravia to take on the state-ranked Blue Devils. For Coach Peterson's team, playing with heart is never an issue, and this was the case in the Moravia game. In a very tough game, both the JV and Varsity Raiders would receive a loss from the skilled Blue Devils.

The Lady Raiders would get a break until Saturday, when both teams would take part in the annual "Pink Out" game against Whitney Point. The JV team found themselves against another tough opponent, but would stand their ground against the JV Golden Eagles. Freshman Sarah Wertis would lead the offensive attack for the Raiders, scoring ten points and racking up countless rebounds in the low post. Wertis is a leader on the court and takes charge of her squad. Freshman Kaitlyn Feely used her fantastic court vision and facilitating skill, to create offensive chances each trip up the floor for the Raiders. Feely is well complimented by Evelyn VanNess and the Tikofsky twins, Eli and Annika, all three scrapping for every loose ball and rebound. Despite the hard fought game, the JV team would come away with a loss. On the varsity side of things, a slow start would plague the Lady Raiders, as they were unable to find their offensive. After being down in the first half, the Lady Raiders would find their attack and get back to playing their style of basketball. Katelyn Artibee and Maddy Mikula led Trumansburg scoring with 6 points apiece. Audrey Godbey played a key role in rebounding, and the combination of Taylor Miller and Kelly Proctor out-hustled the competition for the Raiders. A huge shoutout to both group of girls, as they figured out how to deal with pressure and doubt the entire season, maintaining a positive attitude through it all. Hardwork does not go unnoticed. Thank you again to the seniors for the time and dedication put into the program. The purpose of this game was to raise awareness for breast cancer, a disease that "has affected all of us in some way" according to Coach Flood. It was wonderful to see the community show up and support such a good cause, as the day raised around 1200 dollars! Thank you to all who supported!
