The Trumansburg Cross Country Teams finished a strong season over the weekend.

On Thursday, November 3rd the boys team earned their second consecutive runner-up finish at Sectionals, coming in behind a strong Elmira Notre Dame team. Senior Sam Ives paced the boys by taking second overall in a time of 17:34, which also earned him a trip to the State Championship meet as an individual qualifier. Austin Voorhees was the second finisher for the team in a solid 18:19, while sophomore Aiden Begeal was right behind him at 18:20. Rounding out the scoring for team was junior Dominic Mikula in 19:13 and senior Oliver Sugarman in 19:45.

On Saturday, November 12th, Sam Ives put the cap on his TBXC career by running a personal best 17:12 at the State Championship meet at Chenango Valley State Park, good for 21st place out of a field of 122 runners. The team captain managed to pick off 20 runners in the second half of the race, finishing in characteristically strong fashion that has become his trademark over the course of his season. His performance puts him him in the pantheon of runners in the history of Trumansburg Cross Country, placing him at number 5 all-time.

Also on Saturday the Trumansburg Varsity Girls Cross Country team did what they had done for the last 3 years; represent Section IV as the Class D sectional champion at the NYSPHSAA cross country championships. This time however they would do it on their home sectional course. The Lady Raiders were 7th in the state in 2015 at Monroe-Woodbury, 9th in 2014 when it was in the north country at SUNY Canton and 9th when the Lady Raiders competed at Queensbury in 2013. This year however they jumped to the 5th place spot, the highest in program history. The Lady Raiders were led by a trio of Freshman. Molly MacQueen grabbed the 9th place spot (4th for team scoring) in the highest finish for a Lady Raider ever. Kaitlyn Feely blasted her way onto the Trumansburg top 10 All-Time record board with a 46th place finish. Ginny Clifford is already on the top 10 board and cruised to a 58th place finish. Elizabeth Dawson set a big PR with a 68th place finish and Mallorie Conroy round out the scoring 5 with a 75th place finish. Faith de Castro and Megan Feely also set Personal Bests for time on the course with 80th and 84th place finishes. Each girl ran faster than the previous week, when they won the sectional title. Winning that sectional title was impressive as 5 of the 7 were not on last year’s winning team. The team is in line for a very successful future.

Considering this team won its 7th IAC Division Title in a row, was perfect in the regular season, was a NYS Scholar Athlete team with an average of 98.4 average and won the prestigious pep rally skit competition; it a season for the record books.
