On to the next.

On Tuesday night, the varsity volleyball team played their first sectional game and defeated the Harpursville Hornets with ease, sweeping them in three straight sets. Our Lady Raiders came out of the gates with relentless serving and stellar defense to shake up the Harspursville side.

Trumansburg rolled to an easy first set victory 25-14, with help from Meredith Stilwell, who had 7 straight service points in the first set.

The second set finished in similar fashion with the Raiders being victorious by a score of 25-14. Brilynn Winkleblack led the charge as she buried sets from Zoe Golden into the gym floor. This duo of Golden and Winkleblack will have to continue their success as sectional play pushes on.

As the third set began, the hope for Harpursville was dwindling, and the offensive combination of Shaylee Sprague and Katelyn Artibee guaranteed a Hornets defeat with hits that tallied points, one after another. If a team is going to be successful, then not only offense, but defense needs to be effective as well. Seniors Zoe Lincoln and Morgan Corliss could be seen doing the grunt work on defense, digging balls and feeding set-up passes for the offense to be successful.

Good luck to the ladies as they head to Tioga on Thursday to play round-robin sectional play against host team Tioga along with Watkins Glen and Bainbridge-Guilford.

GO RAIDERS!
