Trumansburg Volleyball Wrap-Up 10/17-10/24

A win is a win.

Thats what parents and players were saying after the varsity volleyball team squeaked out a victory against Moravia on Monday night. It took the Raiders 5 sets but they prevailed after being down 2 sets to 1. It was the first time that the ladies had been down in the regular season, and tension certainly wasn't absent entering the fourth set. With a few questionable calls, the team was losing momentum, but a few powerful kills by Katelyn Artibee and Brilynn Winkleblack got the energy back and led to a comeback win in the 4th set. The fifth set was all Trumansburg as defense and serving proved to be the difference maker, as Meredith Stilwell and Zoe Lincoln drove the Raiders to a dominant final set victory.

The JV team lost a tough matchup against Moravia 2 sets to 1. Keep pushing ladies!

Thursday night was a return to prepotency for Coach McLennan's team. A trip to Lansing proved to be a cake walk as the Trumansburg unit handled the Bobcats, sweeping them in three sets. Meredith Stilwell showed how crucial she is for the team as her consistent defensive ability stimulated the Raiders. Good defense sets up great offense, and Stilwell's impressive play set up the middle-hitting duo of Brilynn Winkleblack and Katelyn Artibee, who powerful put points on the scoreboard.

The JV team seized a big win against the Bobcats as well. Freshman Maddie Hager set up Sarah Wertis multiple times to lead the JV offense. Orion Vogel-Moore also had some well placed hits to help the offensive surge. Accurate serving from Samantha Dallas, and stellar defense from Priscilla Ziefle further contributed to the dominant victory.

Senior night for volleyball was on Thursday night, bringing out hugs and tears for players, parents and fans. The night was centered around four outstanding student athletes. Katelyn Artibee, Brilynn Winkleblack, Zoe Lincoln and Morgan Corliss. These ladies have contributed a lot, on and off the court, and will be greatly missed by many people. Good luck in the future ladies!

The Raiders dominated the court on Thursday, both varsity and JV, against Union Springs. With this victory, Trumansburg varsity volleyball completed their undefeated season, and is set up to play Watkins Glen on Friday night for the IAC championship game. With strong serving from Shaylee Sprague, and great offense leadership from Zoe Golden, the Raiders were able to sweep the Wolves in straight sets. For JV, an all around team effort launched the Raiders to an impressive win over Union Springs. Congrats on an awesome season girls!
