The soccer teams had a very short and sweet week. Both teams had a combined three games played, 11 total goals and 2 goals allowed. It was a dominant week to say the least.
Originally, the boy’s varsity squad was supposed to play a strong team in Marathon at the Olympians home field on Monday, but due to safety issues on their campus, the game was cancelled and moved to a later date.
Tuesday approached and was met by a well-prepared group of girls in our varsity ladies team. With two goals from sophomore Finley Edmonds and a goal from junior Hannah Morpurgo, the Raiders were able to easily handle the opposition who were held to a single goal. Final: 3-1 Trumansburg. Strong team play carried over into Thursday’s game where Hannah Morpurgo had an unbelievable game against a decent Union Springs side. The Raiders won in a blowout 5-0. Morpurgo recorded a hat trick giving her 4 goals in her last 2 games. Hannah looks to lead her side to victories next week against Lansing and Dryden. The Dryden game is away on Monday and the Lansing game is home at 7 on Wednesday.
Andrew Stewart had been on a recent offensive outburst entering Wednesday’s game, and he made sure to stay hot by scoring two more goals in the second half of the game. The Raiders started off to a strong first ten minutes, but cooled off considerably and gave up a counter attack goal on a long ball that found the feet of the Union Springs forward. Senior Luke Richards responded with hustle where he would catch the goalie too far off his line and tap in a miscue to knot things up before the halftime break. This gave Stewart the chance to rest up at half and unleash two well-created chances that he would turn into goals. Freshman Richard Prosser also proved that age is no matter as he defended well for the Raiders, along side of defensive specialist Cam Rider (Senior). This would prove to be a good win for the Raiders, as they push forward in their undefeated season. Next test for Trumansburg is a big one: Senior Night for Lansing in Lansing. Also the boys will take on the Dryden Purple Lions on Thursday night under the lights. Be there and be loud! Go Raiders!
