"Student Section" 9/26-10/1

“THE STUDENT SECTION” is a break from sports summaries, and more of a look into life surrounding the student athletes that work so hard day in and day out.

[endif]--Parents play such a large role in our lives as students and as athletes. Their constant want for our success makes them sacrifice their time to deliver us to practice on time, take use to concerts, games, and to social events. To them we should be eternally grateful and thank them at every chance possible. There are times however, when the parents get too invested into our sporting events and can become a distraction to not only the participants but also the other spectators around them. Parents need to remember the phrase that is spoken before our home volleyball games: “Please remember that these are high school athletes, not professionals.” This simple phrase has a much deeper meaning than people take it for. Athletes do not need to hear parents yelling “come on work harder!” from the bleachers during a game. Students do not need another source of stress added on to the hundreds of other stressors that are experienced throughout high school. The workload for some people is taxing and to be playing in a sport as well, it potentially doubles. This is not what students need, so if you have been in a situation similar to the one described, then talk to your parents. Your parents are supposed to be supporters, and sometimes that means not saying anything and just being there for whatever is needed. That being said, make sure to thank your parents this week and tell them how much you appreciate what they do for you on a daily basis. ![endif]--

GO RAIDERS!
