JV/Varsity Volleyball Wrap-Up 9/26-10/1

Both our volleyball teams traveled to Union Springs on Monday night, the JV team losing and the Varsity team winning.

For Coach Edwards’ team it was a disappointing loss, but the team was eager to get back to practicing on Tuesday.

The Varsity team cruised to a three set sweep of the Wolves, continuing the trend of crushing opponents all year long. The undefeated season was upheld by an easy victory and sent the girls home with a satisfying start to the week.

The Lady Raiders had practices on Tuesday and Wednesday night before they took on the Whitney Point Eagles at home on Thursday night. For the JV team it was a bounce back game that head coach Pat Edwards was looking for. With sophomore leaders Samantha Dallas and Priscilla Ziefle, the team has been piecing together a positive season. Dallas says that the team needs to “Function better as working as a team and communicating.” The team will look to string together some more victories when they take on Groton Tuesday and Dryden Thursday. Both games are away.

The Varsity team took a big loss last week when sophomore Meredith

Stilwell was sidelined with a hamstring injury. This didn’t stop the team from defeating Whitney Point, but it was a different game without her.

Juniors Allie Boylan-Voorheis and Alexis Vogtman had to step up and fill Stillwell’s spot, and did a fine job doing so. Senior Brilynn Winkleblack on the loss of Stilwell: “Meredith means a lot to the team and for now, we all just need to step up our game. She will hopefully be back next week before Dryden, our first priority is to make sure she is healed all the way..”

Next up for the Varsity team is Groton on Tuesday and a big game in Dryden on Thursday night.

Go Raiders!
